So, let's refresh our memories with stories we know from history. Either things we studied as history students or things we read or may have been told by our fathers or grand fathers.

I'll start.

Who discovered River Niger?

River Niger was discovered by Mungo Park.

Park, Mungo (1771–1806) was a Scottish explorer. Leading two West African expeditions, 1795–97 and 1805–06, Park became the first to explore the Niger River in modern times. On the second trip he traveled more than 1,000 miles (1,600 km) downstream, but was drowned in the rapids at Busa, Nigeria. Park attended the University of Edinburgh and was a surgeon. He wrote Travels in the Interior of Africa (1799) and the uncompleted Journal of a Mission to the Interior of Africa (1815).

Do you know where Mungo Park was buried? If you know, please tell us or tell us your own story.

Mungo park was buried at lokoja in Nigeria. It was this same city that served as the capital of Nigeria when the British amalgamated the colony of lagos, the oil rivers protectorate and the Northern territories. The famous Lord Lugard was also buried in lokoja.

Now, my history story. Pls 4give me! I choose to go for the recent past. During the olusegun obasanjo spell as president, a certain nuhu ribadu rose to d zenith of power & swift fame tolled his path. He was raised from a commisioner to the ass inspector gen. He was put in charge of the efcc. Obj used him to crush his political rivals. Top of this casuality list was atiku and alamayesia. Beyound reason, ribadu crushed. He made enemies of great bounds as he was intoxicated by power but he 4got that his boss (obj) was never going to be president 4 life. As obj left power, he was stripped of his efcc duties and banished to a complusory study leave in jos. He was thrown away from the police force and never allowed to graduate from the course. Today, he is wanted! He is presently in london pouring sour grapes. It is a politics of unreason! That's it 4 my story.

History is the greatest weapon ever conjured by the chemistry of intellect. We study it not to fall back into it but to provide us with the radiance by which we see the future

You're right! Just under the bridge where River Niger meets River Benue (who remembers what this joining is called?)

It is known as confluence.
u go skull n i like ur history line. very recent n vivid.

my history will look at the one essential item ruling the world now..Mobile phone, In December 1947, a guy called Douglas H. Ring and W. Rae Young, Bell Labs engineers, proposed hexagonal cells for mobile phones. Philip T. Porter, also of Bell Labs, proposed that the cell towers be at the corners of the hexagons rather than the centers and have directional antennas that would transmit/receive in 3 directions (see picture at right) into 3 adjacent hexagon cells. The technology did not exist then and the frequencies had not yet been allocated. Cellular technology was undeveloped until the 1960s, when Richard H. Frenkiel and Joel S. Engel of Bell Labs developed the electronics.

In 1957 young soviet radio engineer Leonid Kupriyanovich from Moscow created the portable mobile phone, named after himself as LK-1 or "radiophone".This true mobile phone consisted of a relatively small-sized handset equipped with an antenna and rotary dial, and communicated with a base station. Kupriyanovich's "radiophone" had 3 kilogram of total weight, could operate up to 20 or 30 kilometers, and had 20 or 30 hours of battery lifespan. Engineer Kupriyanovich patented his mobile phone in the same year 1957. The base station of LK-1 could connect to local telephone network and serve several customers.

In 1958, Kupriyanovich resized his "radiophone" to "pocket" version. The weight of improved "light" handset was about 500 gram.

now going down the years, On April 3, 1973, Motorola employee Dr. Martin Cooper placed a call to a rival, Dr. Joel S. Engel, head of research at AT&T's Bell Labs, while walking the streets of New York City talking on the first Motorola DynaTAC prototype. Motorola has a long history of making automotive radio, especially two-way radios for taxicabs and police cruisers.

In 1978, Bell Labs launched a trial of the first commercial cellular network in Chicago using AMPS, but this network was not approved by the FCC until 1982.

The first commercial launch of cellular telecoms was launched by NET in Tokyo Japan in 1979. In 1981 the NMT system was launched in Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden.

The first handheld mobile phone in the US market was the Motorola Dyna 8000X, which received approval in 1983. then, In the 1990s, 'second generation' (2G) mobile phone systems such as GSM, IS-136 began to be introduced. In 1991 the first GSM network (Radiolinja) opened in Finland. 2G phone systems were characterized by digital circuit switched transmission and the introduction of advanced and fast phone-to-network signaling. In general the frequencies used by 2G systems in Europe were higher than those in America, though with some overlap. For example, the 900 MHz frequency range was used for both 1G and 2G systems in Europe, so the 1G systems were rapidly closed down to make space for the 2G systems. this continue improving till date now is the 3G system...the history line of phone is so long...to b continued another day.....dats on of d history i love telling

This na my own history....... about Lincoln and Kennedy

Abraham Lincoln was elected to Congress in 1846.
John F. Kennedy was elected to Congress in 1946.

Abraham Lincoln was elected President in 1860.
John F. Kennedy was elected President in 1960.

Both were particularly concerned with civil rights.
Both wives lost their children while living in the White House.

Both Presidents were shot on a Friday.
Both Presidents were shot in the head.

Now it gets really weird.

Lincoln 's secretary was named Kennedy.
Kennedy's Secretary was named Lincoln.

Both were assassinated by Southerners.
Both were succeeded by Southerners named Johnson.

Andrew Johnson, who succeeded Lincoln, was born in 1808.
Lyndon Johnson, who succeeded Kennedy, was born in 1908.
John Wilkes Booth, who assassinated Lincoln, was born in 1839.
Lee Harvey Oswald, who assassinated Kennedy, was born in 1939.
Both assassins were known by their three names.
Both names are composed of fifteen letters.

Now hang on to your seat.

Lincoln was shot at the theater named 'Ford.'
Kennedy was shot in a car called ' Lincoln' made by 'Ford.'

Lincoln was shot in a theater and his assassin ran and hid in a warehouse.
Kennedy was shot from a warehouse and his assassin ran and hid in a theater.

Booth and Oswald were assassinated before their trials.

After series of War between the Communist North and South Korea in the Early 50's, An armistice was finally signed in 1953. For years, South Korea have lived with the threat of its Dreaded Northern counterpart which has been living under Seoul's shadow, with famine, underdevelopment and lack of electricity befalling North Korea. Under the leadership of KIM Jong Il North Korea became the world's most secretive state living in absolute Isolation. Just last month North Korea(Pyongyang) said it was no longer bound by the armistice and Pyongyang declared war on U.S and U.N backed South Korea after pulling out of the Six Party Talks. After then, the Chinese and Russian Backed Communist North Korea have been launching series of short range missile of its coasts and have halted the dismantling of its Nuclear Reactor.

May I point out that the recently dead South Korean President was a Lawyer who never went to a higher institution but read on his own and passed the bar exams. He commited suicide after being accussed of corruption of misapproipriating $16 million.
May I also point out that North Korea has the 3rd world largest democracy.
