I read with shock,  the ignorance laden suppositions of some members of this forum; as they state that UNN is guilty of nepotism. These traducers allege that UNN staff give admission to their friends and relatives. One had the effrontery to use derogatory remarks against the staff members of this citadel of learning. In his words'' UNN is enthroning mediocrity instead of meritocracy''.
 The other also unabashedly stated the fact that a prospective candidate with an average of 194 was offered admission to study LAW; this he cited as an evidence of UNN's practice of nepotism.  GOSH! How could someone have uttered such gibberish, full of malice. Very discrediting and untenable?

NOW let me for the umpteenth time debunk these fallacious and misleading notions and accussations against the Den of Lions and Lionesses.
 > INASMUCH as the reality of not seeing ones name in the primary list can be frustrating; and +inasmuch as one has the right to be angry and indignant especially when one feels short-changed; it becomes cruel and out of place when it leads to the use of remarks that are uncalled for. You don't come out in a public forum to accuse an institution like UNN of nepotism without any tangible evidence.
LET  me also tell you authoritatively:

** that UNN is one of the few transparent institutions when it comes to giving admission.
* this is not to rule out the possibility of the staff members securing 'negligible' (mark the word - negligible) number of admission spaces for their loved ones, which is justifiable in every sense.
**that 95 to 99 percent of UNN's admission is on merit. ** that UNN never denies anyone admission except that the person didn't merit it, (due to one thing or the other).

 *that whenever you see a case like the above cited by SOLOMON EGWU, know you that it is neither a miracle nor an evidence of UNN's practice of nepotism as alleged by SOLOMON.
**that a case like the above can only be possible if the candidate is either from:
1.)the South south part of the country.
 OR
2.) from one of the Educationally Less Developed States (ELDS).
** that no YORUBA or IGBO man (excluding those from Ebonyi) can get LAW with  265 as average; whereas a person that falls in any of the two categories above can get it with less than 200 average.  Example: let's use this:

the guy in this case as erroneously cited by SOLOMON EGWU is from KWARA state. Here is his reg.no 15771669EB. In fact, there is another that had 190.
 So you see that it is no luck, miracle or nepotism. Neither would you say that the guy did 'runs'.
Simply put, UNN is strictly abiding by the dictates of the Federal Government ''that institutions leave certain quota for merit, catchment and ELDS''.
Conclusively, this is going to be the last time I will correct this. It becomes stupidity when some people choose to be unreasonably recalcitrant and pig-headed.
 I now challenge anyone that claims that UNN practices cronyism or nepotism to speak up.
 I also dare anyone that accuses UNN of being unfair in its admission process to come forward with indisputable evidence.

SOLOMON, you are being  unreasonably and foolishly  stubborn.
INASMUCH as I sympathise with you at your mishap. It becomes unbecoming of you when you allow that to enter your mind and addle you to the extent of your manifesting it in your behaviour.
Your callow and inexperienced state might have added to your predicament.
It is teenagers like you that put schools  because their friends want to attend the same school; and this is without considering the possibility of their securing admission in that school. Like whether they belong to the schools catchment or not, without checking the competitive nature of the preferred course etc.

 When you try to direct them they prove recalcitrant and play the ostrich untill their situation reaches an irredeemable stage.

Well, as for me, despite the fact that i was admitted, i'll tell you that all this issues of ELDS are nonsense. Talking abt d south-southerners, i'll tell you that inasmuch as they are phrased an educationally less developed state, they are being given an upper hand in securing admission into unn. For sure, every state is blessed with one resources or the other. Just as they are blessed with crude oil, other states are blessed with some other things. Eg: Enugu with coal. Ok, tell me, are the south-southerners not being compensated for the oil in their land? In  allocation of the national income, they will term it derivation. Since they are being considered via derivation, in the same vein, the matter of catchment area is what should be considered when giving admission into our federal universities . Or, are other geo-political zones of the federation being considered as oil less developed state? Think deep abt this. Perhaps every state should have its own federal university. Well, before you start being antagonistic of my view, bear in mind that you can't send me to goal for voicing out the truth.  Sce la vi!
