The essence of this thread is two-fold:
(1.) To remind all admission seekers that the closing date for JAMB UTME 2011 registration is on May 6, 2011 and the exam date is June 11, 2011.
(2.) To invite all forumites to share the secrets, strategies and tips they know for conquering JAMB and scoring very high marks. This is very important because there are a lot of questions bothering these jambites (most of whom are just about to gain their 1st experience). Questions like:
Is jamb really doing negative marking?
Can i answer a question that i'm not 100% sure of its answer?
How is the paper marked?
Does Jamb really repeat questions?
What's the best strategy to use in order to cope with the limited time normally allowed for the exams?
How best should i study in order to come through in flying colour?........
Forumites should please help with the answers to these pertinent questions and more (as we count down to June 11).

Tanx a lot 4 ds thread. I want 2 talk on d time issue. JAMB examiners knw dt if candidates r allowd sufficient time 2 face d exam, by hook or by crook, candidates wil manage 2 score very very high. As a result, d time allotted 4 d exam is alwaz very little n dt is d strategy dey adopt 2 help dem cope wit d excess applications dey get every yr. For me, d best time strategy is 2 1st of all have a dependable wrist watch. Then divide d time allotted by d number of questions to knw d amnt of time 2 spend on each question. Finaly, if u have difficulty wit any question, dont waste time trying 2 answer it. Leave it n return 2 it later if u stil have time.

One more question
How is Jamb planning to make use of the biometric data they collected during registration? Will they provide DDC machines in all the centres to very candidates thumbprints as a prerequisite for entering the exam halls?

One of the main causes of poor performance and failure in jamb is fear. Many candidates have purchased and filled the form for jamb but deep down in them they believe they can't pass it. Such candidates need to conquer their fears first before they could conquer jamb. They must come to believe and tell themselves that if anyone can pass jamb, they too can pass it. It is only when you believe you can that you can.

The truth is that you are not alone in this. Many people are in the same situation with you. There is hardly a way you can combine any four utme subjects to satisfy your choices of university, polytechnics and college of education.
One thing you have to understand is that jamb can never cease your result just because of your subject combination. Every other thing being equal, the result must at least come out. Where you are likely to have problem (i.e. if you have the wrong subject combination for the course you want to study) is after the exam, when you get to your institution to discover that you did not meet their departmental entry requirement with respect to utme subjects.

I want to advice all jamb candidates to study hard because a lot of things are going to accompany the biometric registration introduced this year. Try as much as possible to avoid any conduct or anything that may implicate you because the Direct Data Capturing machine was introduced as a way of curbing exam malpractice, impersonation, lateness to exam hall, and to have a data base of all the candidates so that it can be used against them in future if they misbehave; because they can be caught.

Does this mean that it is not adviseable to leave any question unshaded? That candidates are meant to shade even the ones they don't know?

FOR ALL THOSE WHO CARE TO LISTEN. That JAMB does negative marking is no longer news. What is really not certain is the kind of negative marking they do. This should serve as a warning to all jambites. Any guessed answer is like an attempt to "cheat" the examination body (if your guess now happens to be the correct answer) and JAMB regard it next to a crime. The penalty? Oh, well, loss of marks, of course!
Please do not shade an answer which you are not completely sure of.
