Controversy has continued to trail the alleged suicide of 17-year-old Peace Asukwo, who supposedly hanged herself last week after she was jilted by her lover of two years, Fisayo Tifase, (21).

Some of the residents of Kalejaye Street, Shasha area of Lagos State, where the incident took place, said that something was fishy as the two love-birds were sighted in jolly mood shortly before Asukwo’s death.

Their reasoning was that if there was a disagreement between the two lovers, they would not have been in such a mood.

However, PUNCH METRO gathered that a few minutes after they were sighted together, Asukwo was found dead in her room. She was said to have locked herself up in her room and allegedly hanged herself with a socket wire on a ceiling fan.

Her body was found naked dangling from the ceiling, while no suicide note was found.

Some residents, who did not mention their names, told PUNCH METRO that Tifase, who is a part three Law student of the University of Lagos, decided to end the two-years relationship with the victim on the day she allegedly killed herself.

They said they suspected that the shock of ending the relationship by Tifase could have prompted Asukwo to commit suicide.

“She was young, just 17 and she was also an orphan. She believed that Fisayo (Tifase) was her ticket to the good life she had dreamt of. May be she could not cope with the bleak prospect of his departure,” one of the residents said.

Other residents however wanted a thorough investigation into the cause of the death in order to eliminate any doubt.

Spokesman of the Lagos State police command, Mr. Frank Mba, who confirmed the incident, said Tifase had been arrested, while detectives had visited the scene of the incident. “Shasha Police Station has carried out a preliminary investigation, and the case has been transferred to SCID, Panti,” he said.

When asked to comment on the likely cause of Asukwo’s death being postulated by residents in Kalejaye, Mba said, “It is too early to say it is suicide or otherwise. But we promise a thorough investigation and I believe that at the end of it, all parties will be satisfied.”

Look at how youthful lust has snuffed the life of a small girl, Youths Beware! Live a righteous & holy life so that youthful lusts (and other types of sin) will not hav power over you.

The suicide rate among  young nigerians involving relationship issues is increasing at an alarming rate, i also witnessed one in my neighbourhood this month, i think we should, as a society, tackle this problem head-on.
We shouldn't let this trend go on like this and watch the youths - the future generation, commit suicide because of petty love issues, for someone who has actually witnessed this, will agree with me that on the whole, its very very disheartening for their various families and the society. Lets try to advice the young ones and counsel them where we can.A stitch in time saves nine.
