How can i make a first-class? This is the first challenging question that comes into the mind of every undergraduates; most expectially freshers in the university. Their minds play some funny tricks on them each time they think of this question. The question comes to your head like a flash and stays in your heart like a tatoo. If you take a proper survey on the students that want to make a first-class, you will be shocked that over 90% of these students are freshers.  The funny thing about this is that, in that same 90%  over 60% of these freshers don't really know how to make it happen i.e making a first-class. Graduating from any university; most expectially Federal universities, is the greatest dream of every Nigerian undergraduates. The question now is, how can an undergraduate make a first-class? It's not a surprise that this question has initiated alot of arguements in our today's world. Is it by going to lectures punctually? Going for night class every day? Reading/Studying for 12hours a day? Or going to fellowship every day? These are just the few of many reasons most students think can make one to be a first-class graduate. Is this really true? The answer to that depends on the understanding of the student. The main aim of this thread/topic is to hear the various views of each forumites; to see if we can come to a concensus concirning this question. NOTE: Every forumites is entitled to his/her own view. Under no circumstance should any body counter-attack/oppose the view(s) of any forumite. CHINYXBOY SPEAKING!

As for me, what i think can make a student to make a first-class are: (1) Understand the school system. What will work very well in UNIBEN may not even work here in UNN. (2) Attend lectures punctually. NOTE: The truth is that it is not all lectures that are important to the student. Some are just a waste of precious time. As a student of UNN, all you have to do is to identify those courses/lectures which are not conducive to you. As for freshers, when you start attending lectures you will notice what i am trying to nail on. Older students will understand me wella.(3) Make good friends. Even scholars made it clear that: show me your friend and i will tell you who you are. If you want to make a first-class, make friends with students that still want to make it and you see them fighting for it. Freshers, do not be fooled by alot of students that may come your way when you start school fully. All i am saying is that, you should be very careful and selective.(4) Understand yourself. It's not what will work for Mr. A that may work for Mr. B. So, be wise.(5) Make sure you finish the sceme of work on time. Atleast, go through your materials twice before exams.(6) Respect your lectures. Don't make them to be angry with you.(7) In every thing you do, put God first. Please, this is very important. If you miss this, you may find it very difficult in making a first-class. So, do not forget the God factor. So Dear Forumites, we all await your various  views. CHINYXBOY SPEAKING!

What i bliv is d key in making a 1st class in d university is one's secondary skool records...ur secondary skool performance will determine if u can make a 1st class or not...cos(1) A student who sort to get an o'level cert or 2 pass any exam can't hit a 1st class...

2)If one is an AVERAGE stdnt from d begining, then making a 1st class wil b abit difficult 4 dat person to get..

3)After d secondary level, then ur university environment then come into play..

4)personally,i bliv dat not every one can make a 1st class cos we all have a limitation to what we can do, no matta how hard we can try to go against dat limit, it'll just can't work....That's d most important reason y we need d most vital key which is God Almighty,to place us where we ought to be...by doing so,a 1st class won't be a problem at all...

Thanks to you all for your warmed responds and views. Like i said, every forumite is entitled to his/her own view or perspective. Forumites, permite me to give you guys another hint. See guys, no body was designed by God to be a dull or an average student. We were all created to be intelligent and perfect like our Father in Heaven. There are so many reasons why this perfection can't be achieve; some of the reasons which are beyond the scope of this topic. What differentiate an intelligent student from a dull or average student, is the difference in the development of their IQ( Intelligent Quotient). Intelligent students have high IQ. While the dull ones have a very low IQ. Your IQ level can be developed ie increased. The simplest way of doing this is by acquiring INFORMATION. You are intelligent just because of what you know ( the information you have). Bright students always have a wide range of access to information. You as a student can be informed by so many means/mediums. You can be informed by- Reading journays, newspapers and other printed materials. You can also be informed by watching and listening to good and educative programs on TV. You can be informed by surfing for educative and relevant information from the internet. Guys, if i am to continue listing the means you can be informed/enlighted, i might not end writing them down. Forumites, examinations are meant to text the students level of information at a particular level or of a particular discipline. So my dear forumites, i just want you all to crave for information. Though, we are not all born the same; as in, born intelligent, but i think we can still all be intelligent if we do those things that can make us be. These then lead us to another aspect of intelligency. Forumites, do you guys know that we have two types of intelligency? And that not all are born intelligent? Well, if you don't know, now you know that we have two types of intelligency. They are: Acquired and Inherrited intelligency. Acquired intelligency is that one that you acquire/gain due to continuous practices. While the inherrited intelligency is that one that is being inherrited from your parents. This one is tranferable through Genes. The acquired intelligence is the best one; since it last longer than the inherrited intelligency. Students with these two types of intelligency are highly bralliant/intelligent. Their IQ level is very high; far more than average. The inherrited intelligency can fade away if not properly nurtured. NOTE: Good nutrition also has it role to play in making you intelligent. It is very important to observe this when the child is very young. Because, this is the time when the inherrited intelligency is at its peak. What we notice in most students is that, as they grow older they start becoming dull; noticed most expectially with inherrited intelligency. They may be intelligent in their primary school days, but dull or in the average in their secondary school days. The reason for this is not far fetched. They didn't nurture their inherrited intelligency. So my beloved brothers and sisters, i believe that with this post you all have been able to learn something new; something that can make you that intelligent student you had always dreamt of. Not just learning something new, but also seeing what can make you excellent as a student. NOTE: This post was written to the best of my knowledge concirning the subject matter of this thread/topic. Key to success remains the same everywhere, but the road varies according to environment, but always smooth for diligent, determined, and focused dudes. Ask Femi Otedola(Oil Magnet, Aliko Dangote(Dangote Group), Jimoh Ibrahim(Global fleet), Mike Adenuga(Glo Mobile) and Ladi Balogun(FCMB).

Thanks guys for all you have stated here. I still believe that one's determination matters a lot because you cannot become a first class graduate if you are not ready to pass through the good, bad and ugly aspects of being a university student. So guys, just be determined to never give up on your dream no matter what you face in school and you will surely come out smiling.
