THE Rivers State University of Science and Technology (RSUST), lately experienced a beehive of political activities, including secret and open lobbying, manifesto presentation, series of political meetings and all other sorts of political maneuverings, characteristic of student politics and unionism, especially at such a time when there is a need for a change in the Student Union Government.
Political activities in the institution came to a climax on Wednesday, June 16, as the political conscious students voted their choice candidates into various offices, through their selected delegates, which marked the end of the last administration of the immediate past SUG President, Budu Friday.
The school had embarked on the delegate election mechanism to ensure the conduct of a better, free and fair election. Paramount among the contestable offices was the office of the president, which had three contenders:
Hezekiah, of the Faculty of Management Sciences; Prince C. Dike, of the Faculty of Law; and Chris Wonu, also of the Faculty of Law.
At the end of the day, Wonu was voted in as the new of SUG. In his victory speech he promised to effect a change in the administration of the students’ affairs, a better welfare package and a rebranded students’ union.
