Fifty-eight-year-old Nigerian President Umaru Yar'Adua died at his presidential villa on Wednesday, state TV has announced.

He had become the first civilian leader in Nigeria to take over from another after winning controversial polls in 2007.

The former chemistry teacher was also the first Nigerian leader for 40 years to be university educated.

Pay your tributes to the dead President here. May his soul rest in peace.

He was a very soft spoken and humble man in his lifetime. He was one president that was really interested in the peace and progress of his country. Despite his fragile state of health, he continued like a great leader to pursue the good interest of Nigerians through his seven point agenda. Alas! he is no more, but the legacies he has left behind will remain impressed in the history books of this nation and also in the sands of time.
Adieu President Yar'Adua, Adieu!
