Mexican telecoms tycoon, Mr. Carlos Slim,has been ranked the world's richest man to top a list of 1,011 dollar billionaires released by Forbes magazine on Wednesday.

This is the first time since 1994 that an American has not led the rankings,according to Forbes.

Slim's fortune rose by $18.5bn to $53.5bn to displace Microsoft founder,Mr Bill Gates, who is estimated to be worth $53bn from the top spot while United States investor,Mr.Warren Buffet, was in third place with a net worth of $43bn.
