UNN Students' Union is not united - Says NANS

The University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) Alumni Association and National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) have variously condemned the recent crisis that rocked the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) and the alleged wanton vandalisation of university property by students protesting a purported hike school fees.

In a statement signed by the President and Secretary of the Alumni Association, Dr. Nwanne Chioke and Mr. Ben Juwe, the association took serious exception to the destruction of property by any individual or group no matter their grievances.

It said the property of the university was a common heritage of all alumni and do not belong to the current students of the institution.

The statement read in parts: “The destruction of the university property is anathema to the ongoing efforts by the alumni association to muster financial and material support from within and outside the country for the university.
“The destruction is also unacceptable, considering the fact that the university is already disadvantaged in terms of facilities in comparison with other first generation universities in the country.”

The association therefore urged students to allow reason to prevail and stop the carnage so as to give room for dialogue among the stakeholders in the dispute.

President-elect of NANS Comrade Ini Ememobong, who spoke in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, attributed the incident to the disunity among members of the Students' Union.
“I discovered that the union was not united and the action was not that of the entire body, but some of its members.

He regretted that the crisis took place when the students were writing their examinations, describing it as “an unnecessary distraction that could prolong the students' academic pursuit. He therefore sued for to ensure that students returned to school as soon as possible.

sorry it came that bad but i believe the current situation left them with no choice coz if they did not revolt, no one would have felt their grievances.

In my own opinion, I think the Union is more united than NANS and the Alumni put together.

VIOLENCE has and will never be the answer... dialogue  still rules..... but i disagree with the statement that the students are not united i think it is their unity that prevented anyone from trampling on their rights. that's my own opinion.

After conflict, peace  follows. In unity students xpress there grievances via rioting with maturity & unity the school authority should find the fault, fix it & put measures to avoid such occurance in the future. Conflict, if well managed brings about sustanable peace.

did i hear someone say we are not united? where were this people when barto was tempting us? to me the man has more than 100000 count charges in my law suit.
1. removal of door, windows, and zinc from shops and he calls it demolition
2.increment in shopping form from 5 to 10k, na becos dem stop PUME?
3. Retrenchment of many workers. haba even dat woman wey dey sleep road.
4. Traveling from one country to another since inception of his office
5.Increase in acceptance fee from 6k to 25k.

this is just a little of thing he has done. come oh who are this people trying to play politics with?

No body should blame d students becose if dey hadnt rioted barto will still be playin GOD and feelin like unn is his fathers personal property.so nobody should say the student messed up by roitin when their school fees is being increased without consideration.the only question i have for barto and the so called alumni is...NA SO UNA PAY SKOL FEES WHEN UNA DEY GO UNA OWN SKOL?
